A band that EVERYONE needs to know about.

So my most recent musical obsession is the newly popular Korean indie band Hyukoh. With their unique and euphonious sound, it's easy to see why they were eating up the charts surpassing some of the biggest names in KPOP!
So who are they? The band arrived on the scene in May 2014 with their 4 members: Leader and Vocalist Oh Hyuk (centre, left), Drummer Inwoo (left), Guitarist Hyunjae (centre, right) and Bass player Dongeun (right). All 4 members are under 23, with 2 EP's and a single under their belt. They rose to popularity after participating on a well favoured Korean variety show called Infinity Challenge and have been recieving growing love from the public ever since.
Their leader Oh Hyuk is a breath of fresh air with his distinctive voice and quirky personality. He's worked with some other favourites of mine including Mayson the Soul and the ever popular producer Primary.
I'm gonna go ahead and list below some of my favourite songs from both of their EP's which you can purchase here.
1. Ohio
This is my favourite song from their first EP "20". The music and melody evoke tranquil feelings but the lyrics, surprisingly all in english, give off a contrasting feel. I really like the way they use metaphors to describe people and feelings. This one is a must listen!
2.위잉위잉
Pronounced 'Wiing Wiing', this was the title track for their first EP. It's a song about leading a meaningless life and existence after having your heart broken. I love the combination of drums and guitar on this track and it's one of my favourites because Oh Hyuk really goes there with his vocals.
3. 큰새 (Big Bird)
Guitar, Guitar, Guitar!<3 This is from their latest EP '22' which they released in May this year. I just want to play this song while I'm driving through somewhere pretty with the wind blowing on my face! I felt that the lyrics were about growing up and the repetitiveness of adult life, but that's open to interpretation LOL.
4. Mer
This is my favourite song from the 22 EP. Whether it's the guitar again (I think for guitars) or the way Oh Hyuk harmonises throughout the song, it really hooked me and I haven't been able to stop playing it. The lyrics for this one could mean so many things, I personally think the song is about love but I'll let you form your own opinions. You can read the lyrics here.
Recently Hyukoh were signed to HighGrnd, a music label created by Epik High's genius rapper Tablo. I only hope that we get to experience more great music from the band and I want to congratulate them on their new success and wish them more success in the future!
