All about Babylon ..

ICYMI, he's the new kid on the block and he's EVERYWHERE.

I don't even know where to begin. If you know me, you should know that out of all the genres of Korean music or just music in general R&B is my absolute fave so when Babylon popped up on the scene I was immediately drawn to him.

I first got wind of him when Paloalto, the founder of the hiphop label Hilite Records, put out an MV for his song "Good Times". He did the rap while Babylon blessed us with the vocals. After that, naturally I went to find out who he was and found his instagram (thebabylon). There I found him promoting his own solo music and as the months went by he was posting pics with more and more of my favourite K-artists! He's featured for a number of rappers including Iron and Gaeko and I'm sure they'll be more great collaborations in the future!

So far, I don't know that much about him, only that some of his music is released by MaxMindMusic (you'll see Babylon hashtag #MMM quite alot on some of his posts), which I can only assume is a label or a collective. I only know one person from MMM called Lastnite who produces and writes some of babylon's stuff.

Still, I feel like it's sinful not to be into Babylon's music so I'm gonna list some of my favourite songs below! (In no particular order..)

1. Tight ft Owen Ovadoz

This is a cover of Wale's song 'The Body' featuring Jeremih. Babylon put his own spin on it enlisting the help of underground hiphop artist Owen Ovadoz who you may know from Show Me The Money (he was on season 3 and season 4).

2. Pray

Recently Babylon released a new single called Pray and he blew me away with the vocals straight from the get-go! In the music video he's looking good in all black with pretty girl Irene Kim starring along side him. This was the first song of his that was officially released so it's practically his debut song. Pretty good when you think about it!

3. Cheers - Gaeko, Yankie, ft Beenzino, Babylon

This was the 2nd song I heard Babylon feature on. The song gives off a feel good, summer jam type of vibe with him not only providing his voice but also his dance moves for the MV. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the boy can dance!

4. Lay Down ft Paloalto

This is another remix, this time covering Ciara's Body Party. I love this song and its almost like Paloalto was returning the favour by featuring this time. The first time I listened, I couldn't help but notice the little homage that was paid to Crush. The 'never gonna lay down" part of the chorus is the same way Crush sings the line in Loco's song No More. I just find it so cute that he did that!

5. Love ft Take One

This was the turning point for me. The pinnacle moment that had me like 'Okay, I have to stan him.' - He went and covered one of my favourite Musiq Soulchild songs! There's just something so exciting about when an artist you like loves the artists you love! This song features Take One, an underground rapper who's worked with artists like Swings and Giriboy. The video is very R&B with just him and the camera. You can't even really see him properly but you can still appreciate LOL.

Along with this, he put out another song; a cover of Monica's Before You Walk Out of My Life. You can check that out on his souncloud here.

Seriously, if you like R&B/Soul, he's definitely one to get into!

x'o
